We’re slowly inching closer to the start of the 2025-26 season, as the San Jose Sharks are now 73 days away from their home opener.
There have been two players in the history of the organization to wear the number 73, and ironically both of them were on the roster during the 2024-25 season.
Noah Gregor wore the number during his first stint in the Bay Area from 2020-2023. He then spent a season with the Toronto Maple Leafs before making his way to the Ottawa Senators to start the 2024-25 season. He would ultimately be traded back to the Sharks with multiple other pieces, in a move that sent Fabian Zetterlund the other way. For his second stint, though, he would change to the number nine, as 73 was already taken.
Tyler Toffoli just finished his first season with the Sharks, as he signed as a free agent last summer. He immediately stepped up into a leadership role, specifically helping out young stars Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith. On top of that, he was a very productive player on the ice. He was the only Shark to score 30 goals last season, and finished with a total of 54 points in 78 games.
While the number 73 doesn’t have much history in San Jose, it’s certainly one we’ll see in the stands of SAP Center for the next few years, as Toffoli continues being a key part of the Sharks’ top-six.
