We’re just 75 days away from the San Jose Sharks’ home opener against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Over the course of their history, only three players have ever worn the number 75.
The most recent Shark to wear the number was Danil Gushchin, who was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Oskar Olausson yesterday.
Gushchin was a dominant offensive player at the American Hockey League level with the San Jose Barracuda. He scored 70 goals and tallied a total of 150 points in 182 games with the Sharks’ AHL affiliate. He was never able to truly perform at a high level when he was given a chance with the Sharks; however, his opportunities were certainly limited. To this point, he has played only 18 NHL games, spread across three seasons.
Ironically, Gushchin was the second Danil to wear the number. Danil Yurtaykin briefly wore the number during his only season in North America. He played four games for the Sharks and 37 for the Barracuda before returning to the Russian Kontinental Hockey League. Since returning to Russia, he’s won two Gagarin Cups and will play for Lada Togliatti this coming season.
The first player to ever wear number 75 was Freddie Hamilton, brother of New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton. Hamilton played a total of 12 games without a point for the Sharks between 2013 and 2015 before moving to the Colorado Avalanche.
