We are just 80 days away from the start of the San Jose Sharks season against the Vegas Golden Knights.
The number 80 has only been worn once in franchise history, and that was from 2013 to 2016 by Matt Tennyson.
Tennyson played nine years in the NHL, with his longest stint coming with the Sharks, where he spent three seasons. During that time, he appeared in 60 games and scored three goals and 11 assists for 14 points.
He began his NHL career at 22 after signing an entry-level deal with San Jose following three seasons at Western Michigan. After starting out with their AHL affiliate, he got a short look in 2012-13, appearing in just four games.
Once his time in San Jose wrapped up, he signed with the Carolina Hurricanes, but only played a portion of the season there. From there, he had stops with the Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, and Nashville Predators before his NHL career ended after the 2021-22 season.
Across those nine years, he played in 173 games and recorded four goals and 25 assists for 29 points. After that, he spent one season with the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the AHL and another with Lugano in Switzerland before officially stepping away from the game.
