With today’s announcement of the San Jose Sharks 2025-26 schedule, we are officially 85 days away from opening night at the SAP Center.
Over the Sharks’ entire history, only a single player has ever worn the number 85. That man is current Sharks defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin.
Mukhamadullin has established himself as one of the Sharks’ top defensive prospects and he’s hoping to earn a full-time job at the NHL level this coming season. So far, he’s been splitting his time between the Sharks and their American Hockey League Affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.
The Ufa, Russia native has 10 points in 33 career NHL games. His offensive numbers in the AHL are more impressive, as he’s played 88 games and recorded a total of 53 points. His offensive production is a key part of his game, however as he develops the Sharks will want to see a more well-rounded style of play.
At 23 years of age, the only number 85 in Sharks history is setting himself up for success, but it remains to be seen how long it will take Mukhamadullin for him to truly establish himself in the NHL. It’s clear that both the player and general manager Mike Grier would prefer it to be sooner rather than later.
