The San Jose Sharks seemed to be heading in the right direction injury-wise going into their game on Thursday night in St. Louis. Yaroslav Askarov and Tyler Toffoli were back in the lineup, and they were on the verge of being a healthy team once again.
That lasted just over 29 minutes. Around the midway point of the second period, Sharks defenseman David Desharnais inadvertently pushed Blues forward Nathan Walker into Askarov. The Australian forward then landed on top of Askarov who took quite a while to get back up.
Although Askarov did eventually skate off under his own power, it was after he spoke to the Sharks' medical staff on the ice. While talking to the trainer, he gestured toward his neck. Askarov then skated to the locker room, while Alex Nedeljkovic took over for the remainder of the second period.
At this time, there is no update on Askarov's condition nor a timeline for when he could return once again.
