BREAKING NEWS: The San Jose Sharks have signed Dmitry Orlov to a two-year, $13 million contract. The contract carries an AAV of $6.5 million.

Orlov is now the only non-prospect defensemen signed past this upcoming season. He adds experience, leadership and a good solid two-way style of play, to a team that is looking to insulate their young core.

Orlov, 33 scored recorded six goals and 22 assists for 28 points in 76 games with the Carolina Hurricanes.

As a left-handed defensemen, he could slot in on a line with Timothy Liljegren as a well-used, reliable second pairing.

Earlier today, in my ‘San Jose Sharks’ Free Agent Review’, I had Orlov down as one of my targets that the Sharks could sign to get them above the cap floor. They needed to add just under $8 million in cap space. With this move they are down to jusy shy of $1.5 million needed.
