The San Jose Sharks have acquired goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood from the New Jersey Devils.
First reported by Kevin Weekes on Twitter, the Sharks are sending a 2023 sixth-round pick in return for the rights to the RFA netminder.
Blackwood has struggled with injuries the last two seasons. He played just 22 games last season and finished with a .893 save %.
Blackwood was considered the number-one goaltender for New Jersey back in the 2019-20 season. That year he played 47 games and had a .915 save %.
Blackwood is 26 years old, and at 6'4, 225 lbs, he can take up much of the net. The Sharks will have a backlog of netminders this offseason.
At the moment, it looks as though Kaapo Kahkonen, Eetu Makiniemi, and now Blackwood will have a chance to be the San Jose Sharks netminder.
