The San Jose Sharks have signed the second-overall pick from this summer’s draft, Michael Misa, to an entry-level contract.

Misa, the captain of the Ontario Hockey League’s Saginaw Spirit last season, just finished his third season in the OHL after being granted exceptional status ahead of the 2022-23 season. He was dominant in his most recent campaign, scoring 62 goals and totaling 134 points in just 65 games.

Misa’s performance last season earned him quite a bit of hardware including the Canadian Hockey League Top Scorer Award, the Red Tilson Trophy for most outstanding player in the OHL, and quite a few others.

There had been rumors swirling in the offseason that Misa may join his brother, Luke Misa, at Penn State in the NCAA this season, however after signing his entry-level contract, that rumor has been put to bed.

Misa will participate in the Golden State Rookie Faceoff later this week, and from there he’ll look to earn a spot on the Sharks roster in training camp. Considering he’s too young to be sent to the American Hockey League, and already dominated the OHL, it’s likely that he earns a spot in the NHL and the Sharks approach Misa similarly to how they handled Will Smith last season. We’ll certainly get a much clearer picture once we see how he performs in preseason.
