Vanecek was held out of San Jose's lineup against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday for trade-related reasons. The trade reason came to fruition as the Sharks shipped the goalie to the reigning Stanley Cup Champions.
Giles, who played at Boston College, has played nine NHL games this season and hasn't registered a point. At 6'5, Giles can play wing or center. He will likely start in the AHL.
In 39 games, Giles has five goals, two assists, and 39 PIMs.
Vanecek was acquired from the New Jersey Devils last offseason and had just three wins in 18 games. He suffered a weird injury after he was hit in the face with a puck on the bench, serving as the backup.
