Tomas Hertl's return to the San Jose Sharks didn't make a difference, as the Boston Bruins defeated the Sharks 3-0.

Hertl did not participate in the morning skate or go through pregame line rushes but was in the lineup.

Danton Heinen, Jake DeBrusk, and Pavel Zacha scored for the Bruins. Jeremy Swayman wasn't very busy. He made 27 saves for the shutout.

The Sharks went 0-2 against the Bruins this season. Mackenzie Blackwood kept the Sharks in it the entire way, making 34 saves.

It was a chippy game throughout. There were many questionable hits on both sides. Givani Smith and Fabian Zetterlund got into fights.

    SECOND PERIOD:

1:38: A turnover in the D-zone allows the Bruins to get the lead off a Heinen goal. 1-0 Bruins.

8:10: DeBrusk gets behind the defense and goes five-hole on Blackwood. 2-0 Bruins.

A feisty period ends with the Sharks on a five-on-three powerplay. The Bruins dominated the second frame and finished up 28-15 on the shot counter.

    THIRD PERIOD:

6:37: Zacha roofs a backhander to extend the lead. 3-0 Bruins.
