The defending Stanley Cup Champion Vegas Golden Knights showed their talent and beat the San Jose Sharks 5-0 on Friday night.
Alec Martinez, Alex Pietrangelo, William Karlsson, and Brett Howden scored for Vegas. Adin Hill faced his former team and made 20 saves.
The Sharks' offense isn't all the way back, and they were shutout for the third time this season. Kaapo Kahkonen made 34 saves and kept his team close.
Kahkonen's last game was last against the Vancouver Canucks where he gave up six goals on 19 shots.
Anthony Duclair was scratched for tonight's game with an illness. Sharks head coach David Quinn told THN this morning that some players were not feeling well.
After a dominating first period, the Sharks played a little better in the second, but Vegas showed why they are the reigning champions.
FIRST PERIOD:
1:00: Pietrangelo scores on a wrap-around. 1-0 Golden Knights.
11:19: Martinez scores on a one-timer from the point. Kahkonen looked like he was screened in front. 2-0 Golden Knights.
Vegas dominated the first period. They could pass the puck wherever they wanted and beat Kahkonen twice.
The score stayed the same, but Kahkonen and Hill put on goaltending masterclasses. Kahkonen was very strong, making a bundle of saves in the period.
2:24: Karlsson scores on the shorthanded two-on-one after Jack Eichel gave him a great pass. 3-0 Golden Knights.
4:42: Marinez gets his second goal of the night. 4-0 Golden Knights.
9:34: Howden capitalizes on a turnover and puts it into an open net. 5-0 Vegas.
