Former Sharks assistant general manager Ryane Clowe has been given the same role with the New York Rangers it was announced on Monday morning.
Just a day after a surprise resignation from his role with the Sharks, it was revealed that Clowe has joined general manager Chris Drury’s staff in Midtown Manhattan.
Clowe, who previously spent time as a team consultant and senior advisor for the Rangers, joined the Sharks’ front office last summer and quickly returned to New York.
In his statement yesterday, Clowe noted, “I truly loved being back in San Jose and working with Mike Grier and his entire team but at this point, this decision is in the best interest of my family.“
While the decision is a bigger surprise now that we have full context, it does put the Sharks in a difficult position, specifically for general manager Mike Grier. At this time, that leaves the Sharks with two assistant general managers, Joe Will, who also serves as San Jose Barracuda general manager, and Tom Holy.
With training camp and the preseason right around the corner, it’ll be interesting to see how much Grier prioritizes finding Clowe’s replacement and whether or not they opt for an internal replacement or look outside of the organization.
