San Jose Sharks prospect Eric Pohlkamp is an NCAA National Champion.
Pohlkamp and the University of Denver defeated the University of Wisconsin 2-1 to win the National Championship on Saturday afternoon. After the game, Pohlkamp shared a hint about where his future:
Rumors have swirled about Pohlkamp turning pro and signing his entry-level contract with the Sharks once his season comes to an end. With that being said, there could be one thing preventing him from taking the ice in the Bay Area this season.
Denver head coach David Carle told Scott Wheeler of The Athletic that Pohlkamp was playing through injuries to his hand and foot which limited his contribution in the final week of the season. Carle didn't state how severe the injuries were, but with only three games remaining for the Sharks this season, it may not make sense to rush him back on the ice.
It remains to be seen what Pohlkamp will do. Based on his statement, it seems he's ready to go pro as soon as possible, but it would be wise for the Sharks to be cautious with the 22-year-old defenseman if he does have lingering injuries.
