Former San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson's season came to an end on Wednesday night, as his Pittsburgh Penguins were eliminated by the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

Karlsson, who became the second Sharks defenseman in history to win the Norris Trophy in 2023, was a big part of the Penguins' attempt to come back from a 3-0 deficit as he averaged close to 30 minutes a night on their blue line.

The now 35-year-old defenseman spent five seasons in San Jose in the late 2010s and early 2020s. His best season was undoubtedly his final campaign in teal, as he recorded 101 points in 82 games during the 2022-23 season.

The Sharks eventually traded Karlsson during the summer of 2023, getting Mike Hoffman, Jan Rutta, Mikael Granlund, and a first round pick, which would be flipped to Buffalo in order to get the pick the Sharks used to select Sam Dickinson, in return.

In his first three seasons with the Penguins, Karlsson has appeared in 239 regular season games, scoring 37 goals and 175 points. This season was the first time that he qualified for the playoffs as a member of the Penguins and recorded three points in six games.
