A former San Jose Sharks defenseman is available for the taking.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Colorado Avalanche have placed former Sharks defenseman Jacob McDonald on waivers.
McDonald has been out for all of this season after undergoing hip surgery. However, now that the former Shark has been placed on waivers, he is officially ready to start his 2025-26 campaign.
McDonald spent all of this past season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Colorado Eagles and simply dominated. In 63 games, he recorded 31 goals, 24 assists, 55 points, and a plus-24 rating. With this, he scored the most goals ever in a single season by an AHL defenseman and won the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL's best defenseman.
Assuming MacDonald clears waivers, the Eagles will undoubtedly be happy to have him back.
In 59 games over two seasons with the Sharks, MacDonald recorded eight goals, seven assists, 15 points, and 80 hits. This included him scoring a career-high seven goals and recording nine points in 34 games with the Sharks during the 2023-24 season.
