During the 2025 NHL off-season, former San Jose Sharks forward Gustav Nyquist signed a one-year, $3.25 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets. So far, it is fair to say that the 36-year-old winger has been having a tough start to his tenure in Winnipeg.
In 27 games so far this season with the Jets, Nyquist has recorded zero goals, seven assists, and a minus-3 rating. He has also recorded just one assist over his last 13 games for the Jets, so it is clear that the 2008 fourth-round pick is struggling to produce offensively right now. This is after Nyquist had a down year in 2024-25 split between the Nashville Predators and Minnesota Wild, posting 11 goals and 28 points in 79 games.
Yet, when looking at Nyquist's past success, the possibility of him starting to heat up again should not be ruled out. Just back in 2023-24 with the Predators, Nyquist scored 23 goals and set career highs with 52 assists and 75 points in 81 games. He has also scored at least 21 goals in five seasons and recorded at least 40 points nine times, so he has shown that he can provide solid offense many times throughout his career.
Nyquist was acquired by the Sharks during the 2018-19 season from the Detroit Red Wings. In 19 games with the Sharks during that campaign, he posted six goals, five assists, 11 points, and a plus-1 rating. He also played in 20 games for the Sharks during the 2019 playoffs, where he posted one goal and 11 points.
