Former Sharks goaltender Aaron Dell has announced his retirement from professional hockey.

Dell played part of six seasons with the Sharks split across two stints. After signing with the Sharks as an undrafted free agent, he made his NHL debut during the 2016-17 season and quickly established himself as the team’s backup netminder behind Martin Jones.

Dell remained with the Sharks organization through the 2019-20 season, joining the New Jersey Devils ahead of the 2020-21 season.

After two seasons away, Dell rejoined the Sharks for the 2022-23 season. He spent the majority of his time with their American Hockey League affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, but also played the last four games of his NHL career.

Dell once again departed the Bay Area for the 2023-24 season, joining the AHL’s Ontario Reign for a single season. Last season, he once again represented San Jose though, splitting time between the Barracuda and the Sharks’ ECHL affiliate the Wichita Thunder.

Throughout his career, Dell played 130 NHL games, 111 of which were with the Sharks, split across seven seasons. He finished his career with a .905 save percentage and a goals against average of 2.92.

At this point in time, it’s unknown what Dell’s future plans are.
