Former San Jose Sharks prospect Nolan Burke, who they acquired from the Nashville Predators in the same trade that brought Yaroslav Askarov to the Bay Area, has earned a contract extension in the ECHL.
Burke, who spent just one season in the Sharks organization before signing with the ECHL's Reading Royals, has carved out a place for himself as a regular in the ECHL. The Royals signed him to a one-year contract extension on Thursday.
Burke's time in the Sharks organization was very short, and during that time, he played strictly with their ECHL affiliate, the Wichita Thunder. At 23 years of age, Burke has now appeared in 153 ECHL games, scoring 28 goals and 45 assists in that span, for a total of 73 points. Considering he's only played a single game at the American Hockey League level to this point, which came during his time in the Predators organization, it seems unlikely that he's going to surpass the ECHL any time soon.
