San Jose Sharks defenseman Henry Thrun won't play against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday due to an upper-body injury.

"Thrun did not participate in morning skate after suffering an upper-body injury in Thursday's 4-3 loss at the Montreal Canadiens," Sheng Peng wrote.

The 23-year-old has been in an opportune position to develop with Jake Walman as his partner. When San Jose traded Cody Ceci to the Dallas Stars, Thrun was the first man to get the opportunity to play on the top defense pair.

During Thursday's game, Thrun left the bench briefly in the first period and again later on. He only played 12:13 compared to the 18:29 he'd been averaging in the last five games.

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky told SJHN that the Sharks will decide whether to recall another defenseman in the next 24 hours. Marc-Edouard Vlasic came in for Jack Thompson on Thursday and will remain in the lineup, while Thompson will draw back in.

“Too early to say,” Warsofsky said. “We’ll see how these next 24 hours go [for Thrun].”

    Warsofsky qualifies Thrun as day-to-day.
