Joey Daccord stood on his head and the Seattle Kraken finally gave him some late help, but that meant a loss for the San Jose Sharks.
Daccord stopped 35 shots and Seattle scored three times in the third period to rally past the Sharks 4–2 on Saturday night at SAP Center, snapping a four-game losing streak in the process.
San Jose (17-16-3) got goals from Adam Gaudette and Collin Graf but dropped its second straight after a brief three-game win streak. Yaroslav Askarov finished with 28 saves.
Chandler Stephenson lit the lamp for the fourth straight game and added an assist for Seattle (13-14-6). Eeli Tolvanen also chipped in with a goal and an assist as the Kraken flipped the script after falling behind early in the third.
Tolvanen opened the scoring midway through the second period, jumping on a pass, racing in alone and slipping a wrist shot through Askarov’s five-hole for a 1–0 Seattle lead.
The Sharks answered on the power play at 11:22 when Macklin Celebrini’s shot deflected in front and Gaudette cleaned up the loose puck with a backhand to tie it.
San Jose grabbed the lead just 36 seconds into the third after a Seattle turnover. Igor Chernyshov set up Graf in front, and after his one-timer hit the post, the puck caromed off Daccord and into the net off Adam Larsson.
Seattle responded quickly. Ryker Evans tied it at 1:55 with a wrist shot from the point that beat a screened Askarov, and Ryan Lindgren followed at 4:27 with a deflected shot that found the back of the net for his first goal in 33 games, putting the Kraken ahead for good.
Stephenson sealed it late, taking a feed from Tolvanen and skating the puck into the empty net with 1:24 left to cap the comeback.
Stephenson now has five goals and four assists during an eight-game point streak as Seattle heads home with some much-needed momentum.
The Sharks will hit the road for the next three games. Their next contest takes place Tuesday night against the Vegas Golden Knights. Coverage begins at 9 p.m. local time.
