The Sharks have completed a trade with the Hurricanes.

The San Jose Sharks have announced that they have acquired a 2027 fifth-round pick from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Kyle Masters and a 2026 fourth-round pick.

The 2027 fifth-round pick that the Sharks have acquired from the Hurricanes is the Chicago Blackhawks' selection.

The Sharks acquired Masters back in October of this season from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Oskar Olausson. Now, with this latest move, Masters' time with the Sharks organization has already come to an end.

Masters played in 10 games this season with the Wichita Thunder of the ECHL before this trade, where he recorded three assists and a minus-8 rating.

In 69 career ECHL games split between the Iowa Heartlanders and Thunder, Masters has recorded nine goals, 26 assists, and 35 points. He has also played in 35 career American Hockey League (AHL) games, where he has posted one goal and six points.

With this trade, the Sharks have freed up a contract space for top prospect Michael Misa. Misa is gearing up for his 10th game with San Jose, which means the Sharks needed to free up a spot to officially register the 2025 first-round pick's contract. This is because the Sharks had 50 players under contract before trading Masters.
