With the Sharks locking up Alexander Wennberg, which players could they look to sign to contract extensions next?

The San Jose Sharks made a big move on Jan. 4, signing forward Alexander Wennberg to a three-year, $18 million contract extension. With this move, the Sharks will be keeping one of their key veteran forwards around.

With the Sharks locking up Wennberg, let's look at two more pending unrestricted free agents who San Jose could sign to contract extensions next.

    Mario Ferraro, D

Ferraro is certainly a contract extension to keep an eye on from the Sharks. While he has been discussed in the rumor mill before, he is also an incredibly important part of the Sharks' blueline. Due to this, it would be completely understandable if they worked hard to sign him to a contract extension. At 27 years old, he is prime and would be worth signing long-term.

    John Klingberg, D

Klingberg has been a nice addition to the Sharks' roster this season, so he could be a player they look to keep around beyond this campaign. In 31 games so far this season, the right-shot defenseman has recorded nine goals and 16 points. With this, he has provided solid offense from the point for San Jose and could be worth signing to a short-term extension.
