Follow the San Jose Sharks' first preseason game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Hockey returns to the SAP Center as the San Jose Sharks take on the Vegas Golden Knights.

Tonight's Sharks lineup:

Kaapo Kahkonen is expected to be in goal for the entire game.

Golden Knights' lines:

FIRST PERIOD:

0:24: Henry Thrun fires a shot from the point that beats the goaltender over the glove. Tomas Hertl gets the only assist. Sharks lead 1-0.

9:03: Hertl scores on a one-timer after a great pass from Thrun. Mike Hoffman gets the secondary assist. 2-0 Sharks.

9:49: Nathan Todd finds the puck all alone in front to beat the Vegas netminder. Kyle Burroughs and Cole Cassels assist on the play. 3-0 Sharks.

16:43: Ivan Barbashev gets a backhand shot over Kahkonen to get the Knights on the board. Pavel Dorofeyev gets the assist. 3-1 Sharks.

19:20: Thrun somehow beats the goalie on the powerplay for his second goal of the game. Hertl and Danil Gushchin assist on the play. 4-1 Sharks.

It was a terrific period for the San Jose Sharks. Other than the broken play that led to the Barbashev goal, Team Teal thoroughly dominated.

SECOND PERIOD:

1:31: Kahkonen stands tall, stopping a breakaway. Good rebound control.

7:12: Burroughs slides in from the point and scores after a great pass from Alexander Barabanov. 5-1 Sharks.

15:41: Brett Howden deflects a puck past Kahkonen after chaos in front of the net. Danil Chayka took the shot, and Paul Cotter earned the secondary assist. 5-2 Sharks.

16:48: Burroughs hits Max Comtois hard but late. Sharks head to the penalty kill. Burroughs was brought in for leadership and physicality and showed it here.

The San Jose Sharks were able to kill the penalty and get through the rest of the frame unscathed.

Although Team Teal started strong in the second period, the Knights finally had some pushback. VGK created a net-front presence that affected Kahkonen, leading directly to Howden's goal.

San Jose must find the energy to retake control in the third.

THIRD PERIOD:

12:00: Kahkonen has been steady in the crease. The Sharks have gone to a defensive structure, not taking many offensive changes.
