In one of the craziest second periods in recent history, the San Jose Sharks won the most entertaining game of the season 6-5 over the Detroit Red Wings.
The Red Wings went up 4-0 after scoring four goals in 4:35. Mackenzie Blackwood was yanked, Marc-Edouard Vlasic took an unsportsmanlike penalty, and all hope was lost for San Jose.
Then the Sharks scored four goals in the final 5:52 of the second to re-tie the game at four. The Sharks got two shorthanded goals on the same penalty. First came Tomas Hertl with his team-leading eighth of the season.
He wasn't outdone as Fabian Zetterlund sniped his eighth goal of the season to tie Hertl for the team lead.
Then Nico Sturm stopped a 33-game goalless drought with two goals of his own.
This game was supposed to be about Patrick Kane making his Red Wings debut, but was quickly outshined by this crazy second period.
Ville Husso got the start in goal for the Red Wings and made 30 saves.
Blackwood made 16 saves. Kahkonen made 10 saves in relief.
The other thing to not go unnoticed is William Eklund's game. He was all over the place. He created chances and had tons of opportunities to score. Despite not scoring, this could be considered the best game of his young career.
Unfortunately for the Sharks, Dylan Larkin was able to go top-shelf on Kahkonen late in the third period to give the Red Wings the lead.
While the comeback was remarkable, the Sharks continue to fall behind in games. They played a solid first period and outshot the Wings 12-7.
Yet again, with the goalie pulled, Hertl comes through again. He puts home his ninth goal and second of the game to make it 5-5.
Zetterlund then makes a great play in OT. He fakes the shot and slides it over to Mikael Granlund for the overtime winner!
What a game in Detroit! Sharks win 6-5 in OT.
