Quentin Musty Getting Every Opportunity to Make the Sharks cover image

There are quite a few forwards trying to compete for a limited number of available roster spots on the San Jose Sharks. Whether it’s again veterans, or prospects trying to break through and show they belong in the NHL, there’s plenty of competition.

Early in training camp, one fringe player who has stood out above the rest has been 20 year old winger Quentin Musty.

Musty has been finding his way into a group filled with mainly NHL caliber talent, including an almost all-NHL group on Tuesday.

According to Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News, Musty got another sizable opportunity on Thursday morning as he was on a line with both Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini. Although it was for a brief period of time, Musty has played with Smith before, as they were linemates for a while during the 2024 Rookie Faceoff in El Segundo, where Musty dominated offensively.

Although Musty has gained five pounds compared to this time last season, he seems to have slimmed down and gotten quicker. During his first preseason outing for the Sharks, he played alongside Michael Misa and Tyler Toffoli, adding an assist on Toffoli’s empty-net goal near the end of the third period.

While it remains to be seen whether or not Musty will make the opening night roster for the Sharks, it seems that head coach Ryan Warsofsky is giving him every opportunity to do so.
