The San Jose Sharks were in St. Louis tonight, as they faced off against the St. Louis Blues.

Tyler Toffoli was a game time decision for the Sharks, but ultimately took warmups and started the game for the team in teal. John Klingberg was in the same boat, but was replaced in the lineup by Nick Leddy. The Blues on the other hand were without star forward Robert Thomas.

Joel Hofer got the start for the Blues, while Yaroslav Askarov was back between the pipes for the Sharks following his injury.

The Sharks got their first power play of the night 3:40 into the game when Philip Broberg was called for holding the stick.

As the penalty expired, Adam Gaudette and Igor Chernyshov collided near center ice. Moments later, Gaudette was called for hooking Matthew Kessel, sending the Blues to their first power play. The Sharks would go on to kill off the penalty.

At the end of the first, the game remained a 0-0 tie.

Zack Ostapchuk and Logan Mailloux dropped the gloves early in the second period due to a hit on Gaudette. On top of the five minute fighting major, Ostapchuk also received a minor penalty for instigating and a ten-minute misconduct.

Nathan Walker collided with Askarov around the midway point of the second period. Vincent Desharnais tried to clear the crease, shoving the Blues forward into the Sharks’ netminder. Askarov was down for quite a while and received attention from the Sharks’ medical staff. Penalties were issued, but it was offsetting minor penalties to Walker and Dmitry Orlov.

Alex Nedeljkovic then entered the game for the Sharks.

20 year old Dalibor Dvorsky broke the deadlock late in the second period, giving the Blues a 1-0 lead with his 11th goal of the season. St. Louis then took that lead into the second intermission.

Alex Wennberg tied things up with his 14th goal of the season just over five minutes into the final frame. His goal came as the result of a perfectly placed cross-ice pass by William Eklund on zone entry.

After 60 minutes, the score remained tied and the game moved on to overtime.

With just seconds remaining in the overtime period, Dmitry Orlov fired a shot that went just wide of the goal. The Blues picked up the puck and rushed down the ice leading to a Dylan Holloway goal with just 2.4 seconds remaining in overtime to secure a win for St. Louis.

The Sharks’ losing streak has now grown to six straight games, but they did pick up a point in the process.
