The San Jose Sharks’ ECHL affiliate, the Wichita Thunder have parted ways with long-time head coach Bruce Ramsay.

Ramsay’s time in Wichita began well before the Thunder’s affiliation with the Sharks. He took over the head coaching duties during the 2019-20 season. At the time, the Thunder were affiliated with the Edmonton Oilers and Ramsay coached players like Stuart Skinner, Bobby McMann and current Sharks defenseman Vincent Desharnais.

The Sharks partnered with the Thunder beginning in the 2022-23 season and Ramsay coached a few players that Sharks fans may recognize such as Magnus Chrona, Georgi Romanov, Artem Guryev, and Gannon Laroque, just to name a few.

During Ramsay’s time with the Thunder, they made the playoffs twice in seven seasons. This season, they finished 28th in the ECHL.

In the press release announcing the move, Ramsay stated, “I’d like to thank the players who I’ve coached here for the past seven years. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some very talented people. I’d like to thank ownership, Joel and Jason Mals as well as the great fans. There are a ton of die-hard Thunder fans who support the team and I appreciate you. Wichita will always have a special place for me as a player and a coach."
