Given their abundance of cap space heading into the 2025-26 season, there’s no surprise that teams looking to shed salary would be reaching out to the San Jose Sharks.
Rumors have been spreading regarding Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price’s contract being moved this summer, and according to Marco D’Amico of RG Media, a move could be coming as soon as this week.

Carey Price's contract should be traded this upcoming week, with sources suggesting San Jose, Chicago or Pittsburgh as destinations.
The Canadiens are trading Price's contract to open themselves to the possibility of another trade.
Timing on that is TBD.
Price was undoubtedly one of the league’s top goaltenders during his prime, with his best season coming during the 2013-14 campaign when he won quite a bit of hardware headlined by the Vezina Trophy and Hart Trophy.
Unfortunately, Price’s career was cut short due to injury, and he last played on April 29, 2022. The goaltender is in the final year of an eight-year, $84 million contract, which carries an average annual value of $10.5 million. Acquiring the contract would allow the Sharks to have additional flexibility at this season’s trade deadline, as they’d be well over the salary floor after adding a cap hit of that size.
D’Amico noted that the move should be done by sometime this week, and if the Sharks do take on the contract, they’ll likely get a draft pick of some sort along with it.
