San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture will miss the start of training camp due to injury.

Logan Couture was not on the ice for the start of the San Jose Sharks training camp as he deals with a lower-body injury.

The team announced that Couture is week to week and did not specify the exact injury.

"Just this summer. Trying to get ready for the season," Couture said to The Hockey News. "As of right now, it's week to week. Just taking it day-by-day, rehabbing in here every day."

Couture would not give an exact timetable on his potential return, but he said the hope is that he will not miss any regular season games.

Couture has not been able to skate with his teammates yet, but he said he was hopeful to be able to watch a little bit of training camp.

"Rehab is long hours at the rink, so I'm going to be around these guys and watch them work," Couture said. "They're going to see me around, and I'm here for any of these young guys that have any questions. Obviously, I won't be on the ice for them to start here, but it is nice to be able to be around and work with them in some way."

The San Jose Sharks captain has certainly had an eventful summer. Couture recently welcomed his first child to his family.

GM Mike Grier confirmed that Couture stayed in the Bay Area this summer and is in a good headspace, given the team's state.

"Yeah, I am optimistic," Grier said about Couture being ready by the regular season. "At the same time, it is an 82-game season, and if he's not ready for the first week of the season, then we will deal with it. We won't rush him back, but hopefully he is ready. We have enough depth this season to deal with it with players like [Mikael] Granlund."

Based on what was said, there isn't any expectation that Couture will play during the preseason.

The Sharks first preseason game is Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights at 5 p.m. at SAP Center.
