The Sharks have lost one of their defensemen.
Vincent Iorio's time with the San Jose Sharks has come to an end, as the 6-foot-4 defenseman has been claimed off waivers by the New York Rangers.
Iorio was placed on waivers by the Sharks on Friday. When noting that he is a 23-year-old right-shot defenseman with size, it certainly seemed possible that another team would take a chance on him. Now, the Rangers are doing just that after claiming him off waivers.
Iorio was claimed off waivers earlier this season by the Sharks from the Washington Capitals. In 21 games with the Sharks this season before being claimed by the Rangers, he had zero goals, three assists, 11 hits, 32 blocks, and a minus-4 rating.
Iorio will now be joining a retooling Rangers club that needs help on the right side of their blueline. It will be interesting to see if he ends up being a good fit for the Original Six club from here.
