On Friday morning, the San Jose Sharks announced that they have signed forward Ty Dellandrea to a two-year contract extension, keeping him in the Bay Area for the near future.

“Ty has been a consistent performer at both ends of the ice and a big part of our locker room and the culture we’re building,” Sharks general manager Mike Grier said in a statement. “We are excited to keep him in San Jose.”

The new contract prevents Dellandrea from becoming a restricted free agent this summer, and it carries a cap hit of $1.625 million.

Dellandrea has played in 42 games for the Sharks this season, mostly in the bottom-six. He has been out of action since January, but could be returning to the ice in the near future.
