The San Jose Sharks have made a notable move, as they have announced that they have signed forward Alexander Wennberg to a three-year, $18 million contract extension.
Starting next season, Wennberg will have a $6 million average annual value for the Sharks.
Wennberg was one of the Sharks' most notable pending unrestricted free agents (UFAs). Yet, instead of testing the free-agent market this upcoming summer, Wennberg will be staying put in San Jose after signing this new contract extension.
Wennberg currently has a $5 million cap hit, so he has landed himself a nice with his new contract extension. It is understandable, as he has been having a strong 2025-26 season with the Sharks.
In 41 games so far this season with the Sharks, Wennberg has recorded seven goals, 19 assists, and 26 points. This is after he had 10 goals and 35 points in 77 games during his first season with the Sharks in 2024-25.
Wennberg will now continue to be an important part of the Sharks' forward group after landing his new three-year deal. Overall, this looks like a good move for both the player and the team. It will be fascinating to see how much of an impact Wennberg makes after signing his new extension from here.
