Sharks Skilled Prospect On Fire In AHL cover image

This Sharks prospect is continuing to impress with the Barracuda.

The San Jose Sharks have a very strong prospect pool, and it is a big reason why so many fans feel they have an incredibly bright future ahead of them. One specific Sharks prospect who has been impressing in a major way this season is defenseman Luca Cagnoni.

Cagnoni has been demonstrating good upside this campaign down in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the San Jose Barracuda. In 36 games so far this season with the AHL squad, the 5-foot-9 defenseman has posted five goals, 20 assists, and 25 points. This is after he had 16 goals, 36 assists, and 52 points in 64 games this past season with the Barracuda.

As the season carries on, Cagnoni is only continuing to stay hot. Over his last six games with the Barracuda, the 2023 fourth-round pick has recorded six assists. This included him putting together back-to-back two-assist games against the Tucson Roadrunners on Jan. 17 and the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Jan. 21.

Seeing Cagnoni making an impact offensively like this for the Barracuda is encouraging. It will be interesting to see how he builds on his hot streak with the AHL squad from here.
