The San Jose Sharks face a tough decision with recently acquired forward Kiefer Sherwood. With the 2026 Trade Deadline on Friday, there's no more time for thinking or gathering new information on the ice. It's time for Sharks management to take action, and it appears that they've decided to keep Sherwood and see what happens.

Hockey insider Frank Seravalli stated on Wednesday morning that the Sharks "have made progress on contract extension talks with Kiefer Sherwood." Seravalli then added, "Short of an unforeseen development, it’s unlikely that Sherwood is flipped between now and Friday’s deadline."

Sherwood's performance on Tuesday night showed exactly why the Sharks brought him in this season, he thrived in a physical, high-stakes game against the Montreal Canadiens.

There have been some concerns though, as Sherwood failed to record a point in his first four outings for the team in teal and his asking price is a big part of what led to him being moved out of Vancouver.

Back in January, insider Chris Johnston stated that Sherwood's asking price was $30 million for a long-term deal.
