Despite what his head coach said, San Jose Sharks forward Alexander Barabanov didn't play in tonight's game.
Barabanov did not take the ice for warmups before the Sharks played the Arizona Coyotes.
Sharks head coach David Quinn said that Barabanov "fell ill" postgame.
"We haven't decided [what line he's on] yet," Sharks coach David Quinn said on Wednesday. "I mean, he's playing."
Barabanov skated with Logan Couture and Ryan Carpenter at practice on Wednesday.
Couture and Carpenter are injured, so skating with them was unusual for a player who has a top-six forward role.
"Barabanov was doing a pretty good job with [Eklund and Hertl], too," Quinn said. "Just moving lines around a little bit just because we've gotten a little bit dry [at] five on five. We are taking a look at some different combinations right now."
Givani Smith will enter the lineup for Barabanov and play on the fourth line.
Barabanov is a pending UFA and could be an option for playoff-contending teams to trade for in March.
