San Jose Sharks legend Joe Thornton has officially retired from the NHL.
While this was assumed, it was not yet official. A shirtless Jumbo finally announced his retirement from the NHL on Saturday.
No. 19 will forever be a Sharks legend and fan favorite. Thornton played 1104 games in Teal and scored 1055 points (251 goals, 804 assists). He won the Hart and Art Ross trophies in 2005-06.
He and Patrick Marleau will forever be seen as the greatest players ever to wear the San Jose Sharks uniform. These two friends and teammates are the greatest all-time players to have never won a Stanley Cup.
Jumbo Joe is synonymous with the city of San Jose, and he is often around the Sharks Ice San Jose Facility.
Thornton should be a first-ballot NHL Hall of Famer and will have his No. 19 jersey in the rafters of the SAP Center.
Congratulations to arguably the greatest player in San Jose Sharks history!
