Teuvo Teravainen scored his third career hat-trick as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the San Jose Sharks 3-0 on Thursday night.
Antti Raanta made 20 saves for his second win versus the Sharks this season.
The San Jose Sharks were shutout for the second straight game.
"There were a lot of positives to take out of this. Everyone goes through losing streaks. This is obviously longer than we want. I was proud of our effort tonight," Sharks head coach David Quinn said postgame.
Although it wasn't as bad as yesterday's 6-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose continues to struggle for offense. Their last goal came in the first period against the Florida Panthers, courtesy of Fabian Zetterlund.
"Tonight was a better effort. The goals we gave them were mental errors. We have to clean those little details up," Mike Hoffman said postgame.
Kaapo Kahkonen was a star and made 36 saves, many of them high quality. William Eklund was the best player for the San Jose Sharks. He was skating into dangerous areas and was heavily involved throughout.
"I wanna play hockey. I wanna play with the puck, not without it," Eklund said postgame.
"He played well. The puck was on his stick all night. I thought he was making plays with a lot of confidence," Quinn said.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic returned to the lineup at the expense of Matt Benning. He would yet again struggle.
"A little bit quicker, a little bit faster, a little bit stronger. That's it." Quinn said about what Vlasic needs to do before the game.
The Canes welcomed Andrei Svechnikov back into their lineup. The winger missed extended time with a torn ACL.
San Jose's road trip ends on Sunday against the Washington Capitals.
Quinn implied that Mikael Granlund should return against the Capitals. He also mentioned that Matt Benning was dealing with an injury, and this was a chance to get him some rest.
