San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn told THN that Tomas Hertl will not play against the Washington Capitals tonight.

Quinn said that the centerman is dealing with a mid-body injury. Quinn said that the injury happened yesterday while the team was off. He would not go into further details.

Quinn did confirm that he expects Hertl to travel with the team on their upcoming six-game road trip.

"We've been playing well as a team," Quinn said about the loss of Hertl. "Tommy is such an impactful player for us, but it's an opportunity for everybody else to raise their game a little bit. If I am a forward here, I look at it as another opportunity."

Luke Kunin is expected to take the top-line center role during Hertl's absence. The Zetterlund-Granlund-Duclair line will stay together, per Quinn.

"Nobody feels sorry for you. No one cares who's hurt," Quinn said. "I'm excited for these other guys to take a little bit more ownership and a little bit more of a role."

Justin Bailey will enter the lineup and make his San Jose Sharks debut against the Capitals.
