The San Jose Sharks (9-25-3) host the Detroit Red Wings (17-16-4) at the start of a three-game homestand, hoping to end their eight-game losing streak.
The last time these teams got together was the craziest game of the entire NHL season.
San Jose went down 4-0 in the second period and responded with four straight goals before the period ended to tie it. Eventually, Mikael Granlund would win it in overtime.
Mario Ferraro left the Sharks last game with an injury against the Colorado Avalanche but confirmed that he will return to the lineup.
"I was in a lot of pain right when I took that hit," Ferraro said. "[I got] X-rays just to make sure [there was nothing wrong with] the ribs and lungs. I was too sore to come back."
Kyle Burroughs was a healthy scratch but confirmed he would return to the Sharks lineup in favor of Nikita Okhotiuk.
"it's not easy to develop in this league under those circumstances; I think a little bit of a reset will help," Sharks coach David Quinn said.
Kaapo Kahkonen will start again. Mackenzie Blackwood is still slightly under the weather. Quinn told the media that he expects Blackwood to start on Thursday.
Sharks projected lines:
Eklund-Hertl-Duclair
Zetterlund-Granlund-Hoffman
Kunin-Studnicka-Barabanov
Bailey-Carpenter-Zadina
Ferraro-Emberson
Thrun-Rutta
Addison-Burroughs
Kahkonen
Blackwood
Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. PST and can be seen on NBC Sports California or the Sharks Audio Network.
