The San Jose Sharks lost yet another body to injury against the Colorado Avalanche last night.

San Jose's No. 1 defenseman Mario Ferraro was injured in a collision with Colorado's Nathan MacKinnon.

"I don't want to think about that just yet," Sharks coach David Quinn said about Ferraro's injury. "Let's find out where he is from an injury standpoint. I've got enough bad news injury-wise."

San Jose fell 3-1 last night, but the efforts of Ty Emberson and Henry Thrun didn't go unnoticed. Thrun played a team-high 25:07. Emberson finished second in ice time with 24:21.

"I mean, you're talking about two guys who, before the season started, had about eight games of NHL experience," Quinn said. "To throw them out there against that team and play the minutes they did against the players they did, and to hold up the way they did, really bodes well for us moving forward."

Emberson did his best to hit MacKinnon back for his defense partner but got his welcome to the NHL moment instead.

Despite the losing score and the massive shot total, the Sharks did an excellent job, denying many high-quality chances. The defensive zone has been out of sorts lately, but Emberson feels they were able to clean some things up.

"I think we shored some things up defensively with guys rolling up the wall and getting into their defensive zone positions earlier," Emberson explained. "I think we've shored that up over film in the past couple of days. I think that's one thing that we did."

Thrun's game has grown since his return to the NHL. He is showing an ability to jump into the rush and defend against top talent.

"I'm comfortable with my offensive ability," Thrun said postgame. "Right now, we're focusing a lot on defense, which is a good thing, but it's something that I have in my back pocket."

Against the Edmonton Oilers, Thrun played two of the best players in the NHL and defended admirably.

"You see Henry Thrun out there defending McDavid and doing a pretty good job," Quinn said after the Oilers game. "Okhotiuk doing the same type of thing. There are some good things that went on tonight."

The extent of Ferraro's injury isn't unknown, as the team has an off-day today. The San Jose Sharks will hold their regular morning skate tomorrow, and more details should be available then.
