The San Jose Sharks welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to the SAP Center tonight.

The San Jose Sharks welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to the SAP Center tonight.

The San Jose Sharks (0-1-1) take on the Carolina Hurricanes (2-1-0) at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Brent Burns returns to the Bay Area to face San Jose for the second time since being traded.

Sharks head coach David Quinn has preached puck possession as a key to winning games early this season. Unfortunately for Quinn and staff, the Sharks haven't been able to hold the puck in the offensive zone, causing them to get hemmed in defensively.

"I liked the way we looked defensively. We just did a little too much, not because of what we were doing defensively, but because of what we weren't doing offensively," Quinn explained. "We just [have to] give ourselves a chance to spend more time in the offensive zone."

    Sharks projected lines:

    Duclair-Hertl-Zadina
    Eklund-Bordeleau-Hoffman
    Barabanov-Peterson-Kunin
    Zetterlund-Sturm-Smith

    Ferraro-Burroughs
    Knyzhov-Rutta
    Thrun-Benning

    Blackwood
    Kahkonen

Blackwood will make his second straight start for San Jose after stopping 51 shots in his debut on Saturday.

Henry Thrun returns to the lineup for Marc-Edouard Vlasic, who misses tonight's game with a lower-body injury.
