There was a report that the San Jose Sharks were interested in Calgary Flames defenseman Noah Hanifin.

Per Elliotte Friedman's "32 Thoughts", the San Jose Sharks reportedly called the Calgary Flames about defenseman Noah Hanifin.
"Kinda suspect the Sharks called Calgary about Noah Hanifin," Friedman said on Wednesday. "Don't see that as a fit."
With Nikita Zadorov requesting a trade out of Calgary last night, anything is on the table. The Flames have looked like a disconnected unit, and their 4-7-2 record backs that up.
The Sharks acquired Calen Addison from the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday. Addison and Hanifin have similar puck-moving styles. The only difference is that Hanifin is 26 years old, three years older than Addison.
Hanifin is a UFA after this year, so he is a top trade target for contending teams at the trade deadline. As seen through 14 games, the Sharks are not a contending team.
The acquisition of Addison makes it seem like Sharks GM Mike Grier didn't see Hanifin as a fit either. If Grier called the Flames about Hanifin, it was most likely to get an idea of the price tag for that type of defenseman.
Based on what Grier said on Monday, it wouldn't make sense for the Sharks to acquire Hanifin.
"I don't think the plan is to go out and get three or four guys and hope they come in here and save the day," Grier said. "It's got to start with our group, and it's on them that kind of come together and, like I said, look themselves in the mirror, work hard, and control the things they can control."
The long-term development of the Sharks is something Grier emphasized.
"If there's something there that maybe fits what we want to do long-term, age-wise, and player profile-wise, then maybe there's things we will look at," Grier said. "We're not going to do anything that would jeopardize or get in the way of our young players' development or move important draft capital just to try and salvage the season."
With the Flames in disarray, the Sharks, and their cap space, might be a team used to help facilitate trades.
