San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn met with media members before their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Quinn gave insight into why Jack Studnicka was sent to the AHL yesterday.

"I think he's at a point in his career [where] he's trying to figure out how he's going to be every day in National Hockey League player," Quinn said. "He's a smart kid. He skates. He's competitive. There's a good future for him here."

Throughout the last two days, there has been a thought that this move could've been to open a roster spot for injured captain Logan Couture. Quinn confirmed on Thursday that the plan is for Couture to return during the upcoming five-game road trip.

Quinn squashed those thoughts immediately.

"No. Nice try," Quinn joked with THN. "There's a lot of reasons for [sending him down]. It had nothing to do with Logan Couture. Just to stomp on any over-eager people."

Studnicka played nine games with the San Jose Sharks and recorded no points.

"He and I had good conversations yesterday about when he goes down what he needs to do, and we're certainly on the same page," Quinn said. "Sometimes it takes some time to fully understand that you really have to change your game in order to be an everyday player in this league. A lot of guys that are third and fourth-liners in this league were scorers before they got here. I think he's got to learn [that]."

The Sharks will take on the Maple Leafs at 4 p.m. PST. They will face them again on Tuesday in Toronto, the halfway point of San Jose's season.
