Dean Tait- Hockey Shots - Sharks Kinda Look Better; Fall to Bruins 3-1

Anthony Duclair scored his first goal of the season as the San Jose Sharks fell to the Boston Bruins 3-1 on Thursday night.

"I'm just looking for a full effort, to be honest—a full 60-minute effort for myself," Duclair said. "Everybody's looking for that in this locker room. It's always nice to see the puck go in the back of the net. Obviously, it was a lucky one, but it was good for my confidence for myself, especially before the road trip."

San Jose became the 74th team to start the season with four games at home. Of those 74 teams, the Sharks are the third team to go winless.

Brad Marchand, James Van Riemsdyk, and David Pastrnak scored for the Bruins. Ullmark made 26 saves for his second win of the season.

Kaapo Kahkonen made 33 saves in his second start this season. Although the Sharks didn't score tonight, their offensive zone possession looked better. On multiple occasions, they had the puck in the offensive zone for an extended period.

By no means did they play well tonight; they did not, but they improved in areas that have been non-existent in their game.

"I thought we made a step forward with the things we touched on after our last game. I thought we spent more time in the O-zone. There was definitely more possession and forechecking," Sharks head coach David Quinn said. "We've got a long way to go to where we want to get to. You're not going to go from A to Z without going through the alphabet. There was progress today."

Boston improves to 3-0-0 this season, while San Jose will head to Nashville, still searching for its first win of the season.

    FIRST PERIOD:

18:06: Brad Marchand drags and releases a shot from the left wing that beats Kaapo Kahkonen to the blocker side. 1-0 Bruins.

18:25: A scramble in front where James Van Riemsdyk can somehow stuff the puck past the netminder. 2-0 Bruins.

"He touched the puck first and then pushed his pad. We've already checked with the league, and if we had challenged, we would have lost," Quinn said.

"I just heard apparently that would have been a good goal even if we did challenge," Kahkonen said. "I guess that's the rule now, where as long as the pucks loose, you can push the goalie's pad in the net. I don't feel great about that."

Other than a late push, the Sharks handled the Bruins decently. They were able to set up in the offensive zone a few times as well, something Team Teal has been struggling with.

    SECOND PERIOD:

16:46: David Pastrnak somehow gets the puck past Kahkonen as he falls. Kahkonen will want that back. 3-0 Bruins

San Jose again did their best to stay in the game but couldn't generate enough offense. Pastrnak's goal is one that Kahkonen will want back, as it shouldn't have gone in.

    THIRD PERIOD:

11:13: Anthony Duclair spins the puck off a Bruins player, and the puck squeezes past Ullmark. 3-1 Bruins

The Sharks held their own in some spots but didn't have enough to contend with a strong team like the Bruins.
