Robert Edwards-USA TODAY Sports - Three Sharks Named On Daily Faceoff's 2024 'Unsung Heroes' Trade Board

Daily Faceoff named its five 'unsung heroes' for the 2024 trade deadline, and three members of the San Jose Sharks made the list.

The article aimed to look at players who could be traded and might be flying under the radar of major media outlets.

Naftali Clinton wrote the article, and they named Mario Ferraro, Anthony Duclair, and Kevin Labanc as possible trade pieces.

Ferraro is getting some recognition from major media outlets. In December, Sportnet's Elliotte Friedman linked Ferraro as a possible trade piece for the Sharks.

The knock on Ferraro is that he hasn't ever played for a playoff team. Given the state of the Sharks, Ferraro would likely be used as a depth defenseman on a contending team. His age, 25, makes him even more intriguing. If put in the correct winning environment, Ferraro could develop even further.

Anthony Duclair is a name that is getting more headlines than Ferraro because he is a UFA at the end of the season. It has been reported that Duclair does want to find a permanent home in the NHL, but given his season, mixed with the Sharks rebuild, he is a prime candidate to be traded.

"Duclair is in the last season of a three-year, $9 million contract and could end up being one of the most sought-after trade targets in this year's trade deadline. His $3 million salary is too much to handle for most teams but with a significant salary retention, a lot of teams would be willing to part with a decent pick to add a guy like Duclair for their playoff run," Clinton writes.

His $3,000,000 cap hit is among the best values of any player who might be sought after this trade deadline.

The last player on the list is Kevin Labanc. Labanc hasn't played since January 16th against the Chicago Blackhawks. His $4.725 million cap hit, mixed with poor play this season, only dropped his value.

Clinton refers to Labanc's early success in the league as the reason for a contending team to take a chance on the winger. Sharks GM Mike Grier did reference that the Sharks might need to use their last retention spot in a trade this season.

Clinton says it might make more sense for a team to take a flyer on Labanc this offseason.

"All of that paints an unflattering picture if you're a contending team looking to add depth. However, Labanc is still a skilled player with all the tools to be impactful, in theory. Any trade involving the 28-year-old veteran will require the Sharks to retain a big chunk of his salary and the return would be minimal. There could be a few teams interested in him for the right price as a reclamation project. But most interested teams are likely going to opt to wait for the offseason to sign him," Clinton writes.

With the trade deadline just over a month away, expect the rumors to continue to flow in on just about every player on the San Jose Sharks roster.
