After an 8-3 loss to the Dallas Stars on Saturday, 18-year-old Macklin Celebrini proved why he's not a typical NHL rookie for the San Jose Sharks.

Eight goals is the most San Jose has given up in a game this season, and despite scoring an assist early in the game, Celebrini took responsibility for critical mistakes.

"Our coaches preach on it, and I take full responsibility. I'm giving up too many pucks," Celebrini said.

"I'm trying to make a play, but sometimes it's not there. That's something that I need to learn to be better with. I think, all in all, we need to kind of clean that up, but that starts with me. I wasn't good enough."

It is important to note that Celebrini's tone was clearly frustrated, but he didn't seem to want to let the mistakes linger. He clearly emphasized wanting to improve rather than sulking about what went wrong.

"We can't be happy. I mean, anytime you give up eight goals, you're gonna lose," Celebrini said. "It's not on [Vitek Vanecek]. I thought he made some amazing saves for us. It's on us. We've got to be better."

The 18-year-old became the fastest rookie San Jose Sharks in history to reach the 40-point plateau in 45 games.

The puck play has plagued San Jose the entire season, and head coach Ryan Warsofsky's frustration continues to mount.

"Really frustrating, especially getting a lead like that," Warsofsky said.

With such a young team, he must ensure he doesn't blow up on his team, either. However, last night wasn't a case to hold back.

"I mean, we just gave up eight goals. You're going to be frustrated. It's the NHL," Warsofsky said. "We should all be frustrated. We should all be pissed off and embarrassed because this is our life. This is what we do. You give up eight goals, doesn't matter what team's over there, it's not good enough."

The losing is mounting for the Sharks, who are 1-9-1 in the last 11 games. There is a clear, bright future, and the maturity and class that Celebrini is showing on the ice and, especially off the ice, prove that.
