San Jose Sharks forward Will Smith led the NCAA in scoring last season, so what will he do in his rookie season?

Smith scored 25 goals and 41 assists at Boston College, including a four-goal performance in the Hockey East Championship game.

While his skating isn't elite, his edgework is. His ability to create his own space with his footwork gives him more chances to find passing lanes. He has a terrific shot and excellent passing skills.

The speed of the NHL will arguably be the most significant adjustment for Smith, but his hockey IQ should allow him to be successful quickly.

During the prospect scrimmage, Smith showed terrific chemistry with fellow 2023 first-round pick Quentin Musty. Smith also scored the winning shootout goal during the scrimmage.

THN predicts Smith will score 17 goals and 32 assists for 49 points. With No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini likely starting the season with Tyler Toffoli, Smith may not have the team's projected best goalscorer on his line. He could have Fabian Zetterlund on his wing to start, which could be a good compliment for speed. 

The Sharks' prospect pool has turned from one of the thinnest to the deepest pools in the entire league. Smith is expected to be one of the San Jose Sharks' two core forwards for the foreseeable future.
