San Jose Sharks defenseman Henry Thrun has played almost every position on the powerplay.

Thrun has been skating at the point of the Sharks' second powerplay unit during practices.

Despite Thrun playing the natural position for a defenseman on the powerplay, the 23-year-old has experience as the one-timer option, bumper player, and goal line position.

"I've actually played up top, played one-timer, played bumper, and I played goal line my senior year of college for half the year," Thrun said. "I don't know how it started. I literally played everywhere except going downhill on the strong side. I think it's a good thing because you understand who's open at certain points and areas that I see."

Thrun's first NHL goal came against the Toronto Maple Leafs last season on the powerplay with him in the bumper position. Thrun explained that he was not expecting to be put out on the powerplay, but the coaching staff wanted to change things up.

"I scored my first NHL goal in the bumper spot. It honestly has a soft spot in my heart," Thrun said.

The defenseman also explained that when he was sent down last season, the San Jose Barracuda moved him to the goal line position after they watched him do it at Harvard the season prior.

Thrun says the vibe around the team this year is much higher than it was at this point last season.

"We're playing music during practice. It's freaking unreal," Thrun said. "It's awesome. I mean, you have music at practice. You have a ping pong table [in the locker room]. It's just a different vibe. I think guys are a little more energetic around the rink; at least, I sense that. I find that [I'm] probably having a little bit better time this year at the rink so far than last year. I think guys are chomping at a bit to get going."

"We haven't played a game yet, and there'll be some adversity as we go as a group. The main thing is we got to stick together," Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said about the team seemingly enjoying their time at the rink more. "We got to stick together, be positive, continue to learn, and get better every single day [that] we have a chance to come to the rink. You have to enjoy coming to the rink."

The Sharks open their season against the St. Louis Blues tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. PST.
