San Jose Sharks No. 1 prospect Will Smith was named one of the top 10 finalists for the NCAA's Hobey Baker Award.

As a freshman, Smith led all NCAA skaters in points with 58 (18 goals, 40 assists). Smith also played for Team USA during the 2024 IIHF World Juniors and won a gold medal. He had nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) in seven games.

His Boston College teammate Cutter Gauthier is also nominated for the award. He led the NCAA in goals with 32. Projected No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini, who just was named Hockey East's player of the year, is also nominated.

Smith's hockey IQ is what makes him special. He can see the ice better than anyone and has the skills to make incredible plays happen.

BC takes on UMass in Friday's semi-final of the Hockey East conference tournament. If they win, they will face the other semi-final winner, Boston University or Maine. Regardless of the conference tournament result, BC will head to the national tournament, currently ranked as the nation's No. 1 team.
