With the San Jose Sharks visiting the Boston Bruins last night, No. 4 overall pick Will Smith got a first-hand look at the team that drafted him.
Smith currently attends and plays for Boston College. Last night was the first and only opportunity he will get to watch his team live this season.
He witnessed a 3-0 shutout loss to a team that will contend for the Stanley Cup.
Smith is expected to be a big part of the Sharks future. He projects to be a No. 1 NHL center, something the Sharks have desperately needed. Tomas Hertl has filled that role well, but Smith's elite talent should give the Sharks some much-needed high-end offense.
For BC this season, Smith has 19 points (6 goals, 13 assists) in 14 games played. That ranks second to his linemate and New York Rangers top prospect Gabe Perreault. Smith's BC team is currently ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation and will fight for an NCAA title in March.
It isn't out of the question for Smith to sign his ELC after his season ends and join the Sharks for the final few games.
